It’s here!
My most personal book ever is about to be published. Qué emoción! as we say here in Miami.
Hello Friends!
Welcome to a new series of posts about my forthcoming book, The Girl in the Yellow Poncho, a family memoir. Over the next few months, you’ll be hearing a lot about it here, and about the topic of mixed-race and multiracial identity among youth of today.
This book is the story of my personal quest. It’s the odyssey of a biracial girl trying to find her voice as she searched for her absent white father, while also reckoning with the missing pieces in her life and her cousin’s, and in the lives of her African American mother and grandmother. I see our collective narrative as a “testament to the power of forgiveness and settling into one’s own authentic identity.”
Most importantly, this book is about hope and healing. It’s “my triumphant rediscovery of a little girl who once stood tall and joyful in her favorite, beloved yellow poncho.”
I hope you’ll come along with me on the journey?
